NHRA Receives Prestigious SHRM Award for Advancing the HR Profession

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded NHRA its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the NHRA’s accomplishments in 2017.

The award aligns individual chapters’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resource profession.

“SHRM exists because of our great chapters like NHRA, which work tirelessly to help advance the important mission of the HR profession through initiatives that support our future, build inclusive organizations and focus on workplace readiness,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRMSCP, president and chief executive officer of SHRM. “Recognizing you as a recipient of this prestigious award is just one way to show that SHRM supports you and that we are by your side step by step as we move Together Forward.”

The EXCEL Award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. NHRA will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on its website, and information to share with its members about the significance of this award.

NHRA has excelled in providing relevant resources and programming for HR professionals and business leaders including round table and panel discussions, educational, networking, charitable, and membership appreciation events.

The Northland Human Resource Association (NHRA), established in 1988, has close to 200 members in the Duluth-Superior and surrounding areas. NHRA is an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the largest professional Human Resource organization in the world.

NHRA’s vision is to build a community in the Northland where human resource and business professionals go to grow, learn, collaborate, have fun, and discover their talents. NHRA’s mission is to provide our members and Northland organizations with people management resources, professional development, leadership and networking opportunities.

Why Senior Managers Should Hold Skip-Level Meetings

Most companies have at least one problem department that wrestles with chronic performance and stability challenges. Yet few senior executives take the time to conduct "skip-level" meetings, where they have an opportunity to bypass their midlevel managers and speak directly with members of their extended (nonmanagerial) teams.
