This professional development session will be a review of recent court cases, statutory changes, and regulatory changes in the area of employment law, focusing on changes of importance to the sizes and business types represented at the meeting.



About our Presenter:

Jessica Durbin


Jessica L. Durbin is an attorney with the law firm of Johnson, Killen & Seiler, P.A. in Duluth, Minnesota.

Ms. Durbin specializes in labor and employment law. She represents employers in the public and private sectors in labor negotiations, grievance processing, grievance and interest arbitrations, and in administrative proceedings before the NLRB, EEOC, MDHR, and other agencies. She also advises employers with respect to employment policies, employment and separation agreements, accommodations, investigations, discipline, termination, and various other matters.

Ms. Durbin is admitted to practice before all Minnesota state and federal courts. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, including the Labor and Employment Law Section, and the Eleventh District Bar Association. She is also admitted in Wisconsin.

Ms. Durbin currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Duluth Regional Care Center. She has served on the College of St. Scholastica Alumni Board, the Pre-Law Advisory Board, and the Board of Trustees. She has also served as the President of the Duluth New Lawyers, as a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association Convention Planning Committee, and as the Chair of the 11th District Bar Association Ethics Committee. She has also served on the City of Duluth Commission on Disabilities and participated in Leadership Duluth. She has been named a Rising Star by Minnesota Law & Politics.

Ms. Durbin graduated summa cum laude from the College of St. Scholastica in 1998. She attended the University of Minnesota Law School, where she was a Justice Harry A. Blackmun Scholar. She graduated from law school in 2001.


Joseph Roby


Much of Joseph Roby’s work as an attorney specializing in employment and labor law involves staying in close contact with clients to help them navigate employment law issues before they become problems. Roby has been associated with Johnson, Killen & Seiler throughout his career as an attorney. Roby graduated with the highest honors from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and received his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. He is certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association as a labor and employment law specialist. He has been named a Super Lawyer every year since 1994.
